James D. Rielly Foundation to Host Swearing-In Ceremony for Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel with the Bristol Police Department

Event to Coincide with first concert of the Bristol Summer Concert Series at Roger Williams University

Bristol, RI, USA – 6/5/2025 – The James D. Rielly Foundation is proud to announce a special swearing-in ceremony for Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel as an honorary member of the Bristol, Rhode Island, Police Department. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Roger Williams University, coinciding with the Bristol Fourth of July Committee’s opening concert for the 2025 summer concert season.

Bristol Town Administrator Steven Contente and Police Chief Kevin Lynch will lead the ceremony, officially welcoming DJ into the ranks of the Bristol, Rhode Island, Police Department in front of an enthusiastic local audience.

DJ Daniel, a courageous and inspiring 13-year-old boy from Texas, has been battling brain and spinal cancer since 2018. Despite being given just five months to live, DJ has defied the odds, undergoing more than 13 brain surgeries and surviving over seven years. His dream of becoming a police officer has led him on a remarkable journey across the United States, where he has been sworn in by over 1,350 law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, DEA, and Border Patrol.

“We are very excited to welcome DJ and his dad, Theodis, to Bristol—the most patriotic town in America,” said Michael Rielly, President of the James D. Rielly Foundation. “This ceremony is not only about celebrating DJ’s bravery but also about honoring the spirit of service and unity that defines both DJ and our community.”

The event is open to the public and will take place at 5:30 PM just before the first concert in the Bristol Fourth of July Summer Concert Series, a longstanding tradition that brings residents together in celebration of patriotism, music, and community pride. Part of the nation’s oldest continuous Independence Day celebration—now in its 240th year—this concert is one of many events that highlight Bristol’s deep-rooted commitment to honoring America’s founding.
